Words. I love them, especially when they're used to inspire. Working with them has been a theme in my life, as an English teacher, newspaper reporter, magazine feature writer and editor, and as a book editor and proofreader. (Some of the books I've edited are shown on the right).
I have been editor of Leadership magazine, chief copy editor of O, the Oprah magazine, Femina and Fresh Living and have written for a wide range of local and overseas magazines. I have authored two books, Cape Town Uncovered: a people's city and Pieces of a Dream: the story of Dance for All.
I now live on a farm in the mountains of the Eastern Cape, with my husband and a menagerie of animals: a dog, a pet goat, three horses (one of which I hand-reared) and a few cows. I intend to write about it and them one day.
In the meantime, I photograph nature and have developed a range of wildflower greeting cards I call breathing space. I also teach a Pilates-style exercise class online.
I'm meticulous, accurate and work collaboratively.
I can make words sing.
I edit books for mainstream and independent publishers, as well as for private authors. I work sensitively and collaboratively and, if necessary, contribute to shaping the structure of a manuscript. As I always apply fastidious attention to detail, both language and content, the texts I edit, which includes reports for local and international organisations, are clean and in good shape.
I have a reputation for an eagle eye, catching those tiny escape-artist errors that hide gleefully in plain sight. When proofreading books, reports or papers, my intense concentration and good memory mean that repetition rarely escapes my notice, and being a grammar and spelling nerd helps to ensure that I get things right.
My local and international magazine articles span a range of fields that include health (physical and mental), innovation, culture, the environment, travel, business leadership and personal profiles. The two books I’ve authored, Cape Town Uncovered: a people’s city and Pieces of a Dream: the story of Dance for All reflect my desire to share information and inspiration through the words I write. Ideas for more books are percolating.
